The terms and conditions below apply to all orders placed with us via our web site. By placing an order it is deemed that you accept these terms and conditions.

Making A Purchase
Just browse through our catalogue pages and click the "add to basket" button for any items that you wish to buy. After you have finished your selection, click on "Checkout" and you will be asked for the details that we need to be able to fulfill your order.

All goods sold subject to availability.

We accept credit & debit card (Visa, Visa Debit, Visa Electron, Mastercard, American Express, Maestro, Union Pay and JCB) payment. We also accept PayPal payments. You may also request an emailed pro-forma invoice if you wish to pay by UK cheque.

All prices are listed in GB Pounds. If you are shopping from outside the U.K. place your order and your credit card issuer will convert the transaction into your own currency at the exchange rate prevailing on that day. Please ask your card issuer if you want to know what that rate is.

Back-ordered items will be recorded and despatched as soon as stock is available.

On-line payments are securely processed by internationally recognised payment providers Worldpay and PayPal. Your card details are not captured by or stored on our web site.
Shipping And Handling You will have the option of specifying a method of shipping when you reach the checkout page. Shipping costs depend upon your location, the shipping method requested and the weight of your order.

All orders are shipped from the U.K.
All overseas orders are sent by an airmail service.

UK addresses: Standard first-class or second-class mail is not tracked. If you require tracking please use the Special Delivery, Parcelforce 24 or Parcelforce 48 delivery options.
Overseas addresses: There is no tracking for overseas (non UK) shipments (except where "Airsure" is available) but all goods are insured in transit and will be re-sent if they fail to arrive. Please note that, for orders despatched to non UK destinations, we cannot accept claims for loss before 25 working days from the date of despatch.
Scottish Highlands is defined as addresses with postcodes IV, HS, KA27-28, KW, PA20-49, PA60-78, PH17-26, PH30-44, PH49-50 and ZE.
Delivery Schedule We aim to despatch orders within 2 working days of receipt of your order and in any case within a maximum of 5 working days. If we are unable to supply all or part of your order within 5 working days we will notify you and give an estimated despatch date. (please see also the "Back Orders" section) "Working day" means Monday to Friday. Items ashown as "Pre-Order" are not yet published and will be despatched as soon as stock arrives.

Delivery schedules quoted also apply from Monday to Friday only. e.g. Goods despatched by a next day service on Friday will be delivered on Monday, not Saturday. Orders must be received before 10am U.K. time to be despatched on the day of ordering.
The Parcelforce 24 and 48 services deliver on week days (Monday-Friday) only. No deliveries are made on Saturday or Sunday.
Parcelforce 24 and Parcelforce 48 refer to the name of the service used to despatch the items, it is not a guarantee of delivery times. Your order may not be despatched on the same day as it is placed.
Royal Mail Special Delivery also delivers only from Monday to Friday.

Estimated air mail delivery times for overseas orders from the day of despatch:
United States: 10-14 Working Days
Western Europe: 5 Working Days
Eastern Europe: 7 Working Days
Rest of World: 10-14 Working Days
Please note that, for orders despatched to non UK destinations, we cannot accept claims for loss before 25 working days from the date of despatch.

We will use reasonable endeavours to deliver goods to customers by the estimated delivery date. The delivery date is not guaranteed nor is it of the essence of the contract. In no circumstances will the Chess Direct Ltd. be liable to the customer for any losses, damages or charges incurred by the customer due to the late delivery of the goods.
Back Orders If part of your order is not in stock those items immediately available will be despatched straight away and any unavailable items will be placed on back-order and supplied as soon as they become available. We will give an estimated shipping date for the back-ordered items. You will not be charged any extra for shipping if your order has to be sent in more than one delivery.

You may cancel your order for back-ordered items at any time before we supply. If you need to do this please email us or fax or write quoting your order number. (details given in "reaching us" section) If you do not wish your order to be part shipped as described above please send a separate email stating this at the time of ordering to office@chessdirect.co.uk quoting your order number.
Tax Charges All prices on the site are quoted in U.K. pounds sterling. They will be converted into your own currency, by your credit/debit card issuer, at the prevailing exchange rate at the time of payment. Prices are shown both inclusive and exclusive of Value Added Tax (VAT) at the current UK rate. The VAT inclusive price is what customers with a delivery address inside the European Union (EU) will pay. Elsewhere in the world the VAT exclusive price applies. A VAT receipt will accompany your order.

If you are ordering from outside the EU please bear in mind that customs duty or import taxes may be levied on your imported goods. Please check with your local customs office for tax rates and applicability before ordering as you are responsible for payment of import duty and taxes levied by your own government.
Credit Card Security Payments are processed either by WorldPay, a leading provider of electronic payment processing solutions, or using PayPal, a global ecommerce payment provider. Both options offer secured online payment procedures using data encryption. Your card details are not captured by or stored on our web site.

You may also choose to pay by UK cheque - we will email a pro-forma invoice to you after your order has been placed.
Guarantee All goods are insured by us against loss or damage in transit to the customer. Any claim for damage in transit or for goods being defective must be made within 3 days of receipt of the goods.

Requests for couriers to leave goods in an unsecured location will invalidate any insurance claim for loss of goods.

All goods remain the property of Chess Direct Ltd. until paid for in full. Placing an order is deemed to be acceptance of these terms. See "returns policy" for additional information.

Privacy Policy Chess Direct Ltd. do not disclose customers' names, addresses etc. to third parties except for goods delivery purposes. Cookies are used on this shopping site to keep track of the contents of your shopping cart once you have selected an item, to store delivery addresses if the address book is used and to store your details if you select the 'Remember Me' option. Data collected by this site is used to:
a. Take and fulfill customer orders
b. Administer and enhance the site and service
c. Issue a unique identifier (e.g. customer login)
d. Monitor customer account status beyond that required for individual purchases
e. Only disclose information to third-parties for goods delivery purposes
f. You have the option to sign-up to receive marketing emails, if you wish, at the checkout
Returns Policy
1) Good damaged or faulty
The Customer must inspect the goods immediately upon delivery and in all cases must inform Chess Direct Ltd. in writing (including email) within 3 days of delivery of any damage, shortages or non-delivery of the goods.
Goods received damaged or faulty may be returned for replacement or refund. If a refund is requested we will also refund the cost of return postage using standard first or second class post.

2) Goods not damaged or faulty.
You have 14 days following receipt of your order during which you may return goods. ("Cooling off period")
Any such returned goods must be in perfect condition (including any packaging, instruction manuals etc.) and unused. We will levy a 15% re-stocking fee (minimum £5.00) for returns which do not reach us in perfect condition.
The cost of both the outgoing and return postage must be met by the customer.
Refunds will be made within 14 days of us receiving the returned goods safely.
This policy does not apply to sealed software and videos (see below).

Exception: Software, DVD Videos & Video Downloads
By law sealed software products and video DVDs may not be returned once they have been opened by the customer. This is to help prevent software/video piracy. It is your responsibility to make sure that your operating equipment is compatible with the relevant software or video DVD before purchasing and that software purchased is functionally adequate for your needs.

You cease to have the right to cancel an order for digital video content once you have downloaded the video material.

This does not affect your rights in law.

Remittance Terms Payment must accompany on-line orders in the form of a credit or debit card payment, via WorldPay, or by using PayPal.
We also accept cheques and postal orders in GB pounds, drawn against a UK bank account.
Schools and educational establishments who wish to be invoiced should submit a purchase order by email, in writing or by fax.
